Week 1 vs. 52Teas.com "final"

Client: Frank Horbelt, Zoomdweebie’s Tea, 52teas.com

So here it is, approximately 2 hours from sketch to this stage. Still figuring out how much time and effort I'm willing to put into these, considering I'm doing them for free. Ultimately the client will tell.

  1. So, artistically, I like it. It's sleek and subtle. Maybe just a little bit too subtle for me to really want to use, if I'm honest. I think I preferred the sketch with the intertwined 5 and 2 in different colors (though I hated the teabag tag--we're all about loose tea). I'm also not really sure about the 5 not being entirely clear as to what it is. Again, just a bit too subtle for me.

The biggest thing though is that it really doesn't say anything about who we are and what we do. I realize that's a tall order, but I think the logo should at least hint at it. At least with the different colored 5 and 2 intertwined, it gave the impression of blending and variety which IS what we are all about.

Anyway, thank you for your efforts. I hate criticizing a free logo, but I get the sense that you are looking for some constructive criticism with these, so I am trying to give you my honest opinion. It is honestly, much better than what I put together, in any event, and I will have to think about whether and how to incorporate it into my site.

Thanks again for your effort and good luck to you.

  2. Thanks for the Critique Howard! I appreciate it and take no offense to the logo not hitting the needed mark. After all it only took 2 hours from start to finish (normally, logos involve multiple rounds of drafts and client feedback)

In any event, I agree with your assessments. Aesthetically, this treatment borders on classy but doesn't communicate anything specific. You've got a very interesting challenge here: expressing variety, at a frequency of 1 a week, and that tea leaves are maddeningly unspecific looking things to draw :-)

Thank you again for participating in this experiment. I look forward to seeing your site grow, and how other artists tackle your logo.

    respects,
